Never would I have imagined an entire metropolis brought to a dead stop by a virus invisible to the eye. As the noise faded and the crowds vanished, the city turned both deeply familiar and completely alien. Without the movement of people to mark the space, rusted corrugated metal, sliced concrete walls, and harsh shadows dropped their everyday masks—facing us in total silence as raw matter. Through my lens, I magnified it all.

On any ordinary day, this corner would be drowned in the shouting of vendors and the rattle of metal hand trucks. With the sudden lockdown, all the trade vanished overnight, leaving behind nothing but the stark, utilitarian walls. No cargo, no commerce—just raw matter waiting in silence.

The neighborhood was abruptly partitioned, with blue corrugated barriers sealing the street and severing thoroughfares that once flowed freely. Where two panels meet, someone had torn open a small tear, revealing glimpses of crosswalk stripes and part of a tire—a narrow peephole serving as the sole visual anchor between two severed worlds.

Between the peeling coats of weathered concrete, a dried root locks tightly into the base, reaching straight upward through the narrow fissure—beneath the sealed, suspended skin of the city, life carves out its presence with stubborn resolve from the tightest seam.
